Tired of Nebraska Weather?

Wait a few minutes. It will change. That is the running joke. The reality is not far off. Entering an extended event underneath the prairie winds is a crap shoot. Sometimes you get poured on (see Trans-Iowa April 29th) and sometimes you are shined on. On the 27th, the day of the Twelve Hour Race at Branched Oak I woke up to sheeting, pouring rain. By the time I was off work it was dry, albiet muggy. Stiff winds blew for most of the night, pushing air through the tent enough to stay cool while napping between laps.

Dawn on the 28th threatened misery but delivered glory. A giant system of thunderclouds pushed north overhead hurling lightning closer than comfortable. Just out of range except to spit, its edge passed over us while the rising sun illuminated the changing sky and revealed a rainbow and a golden morning.

Tired from work all day, no sleep and lots of night riding? Sure. Tired of Nebraska weather? Hardly.

    Couple of Days

Last night I was all sunk in under our sweet new wool blanket. Much thanks to those involved. It was comfy but when Butch called and suggested a ride it sounded like an even better idea. Stopped in and watched Sherpa build up his new rig. Toodled over to E. Campus and poked around the greenhouses a bit before riding home.

This morning I woke up, headed to Butch's and put a fixed wheel on the back of Martha's Voodoo which I am riding around. After some coffee we headed to Sam's, had some more and headed out to Walton. On the way home I watched them ride the storm drains and then we caught some of the best Mexican in Lincoln before Sam headed to work.

After I got off work I busted back out the MOPAC to catch up with the recently departed MWC ride en route to the One Eyed Dog in Eagle.

By the time we got there there were already a few flats. While those were changed I had a few wings, a pack of chewy Spree and a bunch of peanut M&M's. When there is no such thing as coast the treats they are a tasty. After the first day fixed the verdict is: lots of fun. Check back in a week.
